Sunpaw looked up, surprised, then shrugged. "I dunno." he answered, grinning, his usual humor resurfacing. "I didn't really have anything else in mind," he admitted, ducking his head shyly. He pushed aside his shyness best he could and grinned at Beetlepaw, eyes playful. "Wanna race up a tree?"

Beetlepaw laughed and jumped up. "Only if you can catch up with me!" And she raced off, heading towards a large pine tree.

"Hey!" Sunpaw cried, grinning, then shot after her, his eyes bright and shining. The challenge was a large pine tree, which was swaying gently in the breeze; one of the few on FireClan territory. He narrowed his eyes, tensing his muscles, then leapt into the tree, unsheathing his claws to cling to the bark.

Beetlepaw laughed, her whiskers twitching with joy, as she pounced against the bark, her claws ripping at rotten pieces of the bark. For a moment, it seemed as if the apprentice would fall back down again, and Beetlepaw clung to the tree, her tail fluffed up in surprise.
Having regained her stability, Beetlepaw looked up, to see Sunpaw, and thus she started to climb higher, wanting to surpass the golden-eyed apprentice.

"Catch me if ya' can!" he teased, scrambling up the trunk gleefully. His paw slipped, and he slid down a few tail lengths before he caught himself, then dug his claws in tighter, feeling the tree swaying in the wind.

A surprised mewl escaped Beetlepaws mouth as the tree swayed. She prayed to Starclan that the tree would hold both her and Sunpaw, as she sruggled to climb higher

Sunpaw froze three quarters up the tree; as the trunk thinned, the tree got flimsier and swayed dangerously back and forth. Suddenly he regretted the decision to race, and stopped moving entirely, focusing only on keeping his balance; keeping his claws dug into the trunk. StarClan!

Beetlepaw gulped, as the tree swayed once again, and she remained perfectly still. Carefully, she streched her neck to look up, easily spotting the ginger apprentice, not much higher up the tree as herself.
"Uhmm- Sunpaw?" Beetlepaw called out.

"Y...yeah?" he called back, not daring to move. His hackles were fluffed out, his tail flat against the tree for balance. Why did I come up with this stupid idea, StarClan? he meowed silently. If Beetlepaw gets hurt it's all my fault!

A powerful gust of wind made the tree sway violently, and Beetlepaw yelped as she lost grip.
She plummeted, but smacked down on a lower branch, her nails frantically clawing at the back to regain grip.
Beetlepaw was panting, and her fur stood on edge, making her look like a huge ball of fluff.

Sunpaw's heart lurched in his chest as the tree shook, and he heard a yelp. "Beetlepaw!" he cried over the seemingly deafening rush of wind. "A...are you okay?" He tightened his grip as the tree swayed, praying to StarClan that they'd be alright.

Beetlepaw was still taking deep breaths, shivering. The air seemed to suddenly get a lot colder. Vaguely, Beetlepaw heard Sunpaw's voice. "Y-yeah, I think I'm okay!" she croaked back, her voice being a bit hoarse. Her chest was a bit sore from smacking down on the tree, but apart from that Beetlepaw felt fine. Scared, but fine.
Beetlepaw wanted to get out of this tree. Now.
Carefully, she looked over the edge of the branch, and only then noticed how far above the ground they were. If she had fallen all the way down, she would've had a serious injury.
Beetlepaw muttered a thanks to Starclan for making her able to grab the branch, instead of plummeting all the way down.

Sunpaw felt flooded with relief as he heard Beetlepaw's voice. It's okay. We can do this. he thought silently. Oh, how he wished some warrior-his mentor, Rainfeather, or Dawncloud, even Kindlestar were here! He edged sideways slightly, his claws sinking into the soft bark, then took a deep breath. Calm down. Calm down. he thought, then, squeezing his eyes shut, loosened his grip.

The apprentice felt absolutely tiny. He slid for about a foxlength, his claws raking the trunk, then dug in all four paws to stop himself.

As she hear the scraping sound, Beetlepaw looked up, to see Sunpaw edging his way down.
"Be careful!" she called out, shivering.
Beetlepaw didn't dare to move, she sat there, her eyes fixated on Sunpaw

Sunpaw held his breath, then perked his ears as he heard Beetlepaw's call, encouraged. He edged slowly a few more pawlengths, each second stretching into an eternity. He felt his claws begin to slip, and he tightened his muscles, regaining his grip. His journey continued that way for, he didn't even know how long, when he realised the swaying had lessened, and he had less than halfway to go.

Sunpaw had passed Beetlepaw, but the apprentice was still to terrified to move.
She took a deep breath, but her paws remained stuck, and Beetlepaw quivered.
"I - I can't get down!" she called out helplessly.

Sunpaw hadn't realized his descent had taken him past Beetlepaw, and he realized with a jolt she was still clinging above him. "Beetlepaw!" he cried, maneuvering his position so he was directly, ableit far below her, determined not to let her fall. "T...try just...s...sliding a bit," he stammered, his own paws growing sore and his legs aching.

Beetlepaw gulped, and inched her hindleg towards the base of the tree. As her toes touched the rough bark, Beetlepaw whisker around, grabbing the tree. She was now plastered vertically against the bark, shivering, and not daring to look down.

Sunpaw held his breath as Beetlepaw inched slowly down the trunk, his ow npaws losing strength. He had no idea how long they'd been clinging to the pine tree, but it felt like centuries. "You got this, Beetlepaw!" he cried, terrified.

"O- okay" Beetlepaw stammered, and inched down some more. Eventually, Beetlepaw's tail brushed against Sunpaw's face, and the apprentice dared to look down, gazing into Sunpaw's golden eyes. Beetlepaw managed to give him a small smile, before inching down more, until she was next to Sunpaw.

Sunpaw let out a sigh of relief as Beetlepaw slid down next to him, and grinned, panting. "Just a few more fox lengths..." he murmured, allowing himself to slide. "After this I don't think I'll even want to see a tree for moons," he purred, his amusement coming back.

Beetlepaw laughed, warmth returning to her body. "Luckily there aren't many trees in Fireclan!" she grinned, inching further down. She was so close to Sunpaw that their pelts brushed together, and Beetlepaw didn't mind. It somehow made her feel slightly safer, knowing Sunpaw was next to her.

Sunpaw felt the comforting brush of Beetlepaw's fur against his, making him feel slightly more secure and less like he was foxlengths in the air. It reassured him, and sure enough, after a few moments, he felt one of his hind paws touch a gnarled root, and he leapt off, landing in a fluffy heap on the ground, giggling. "I win." he purred, teasingly. "On the way back down, at least."

Beetlepaw let go of the tree, and fell backwards, landing on her back, and grinning up at Sunpaw, relieved. "I'd say that I'd beat you next time, but I do hope there won't be a next time" Beetlepaw joked.

Sunpaw let out a purr of amusement, then grinned, quickly touching noses with the other apprentice. "Yeah, let's not let there be a next time," he agreed, amusement twinkling in his striking golden eyes.
