Description

Shiningpaw and Splashpaw at the Gathering, also (hopefully) an entry for the DoW couples contest.

Roleplay examples:
THE BEGINNING OF A NOT SO GLORIOUS ACQUAINTANCESHIP. And the beginnings of Splashpaw's crush on Shiningpaw oops.

Splashpaw froze as, in her quick investigation of the clearing, she caught another cat's vibrant amber gaze, and she immediately looked down at her paws, hoping to StarClan that he hadn't noticed. Taking a deep breath, she hurriedly padded after Meadowpool, then let out a tiny yelp as she stumbled slightly, just barely remaining on her paws. The overwhelming mountainous scent of HighClan washed over her, and with a sudden flash of terror she realized she had stumbled right next to the aforementioned apprentice.

The Apprentice he'd noticed suddenly tripped, Starclan only knew why. He had to move quickly to the side to stop her stumbling into him. He would have picked a fight, certain that it was deliberate, but something about the little Apprentice told him that a newborn kit picking a fight with him was more likely.
"Watch where you're going" he muttered instead, giving her a sharp look, wondering who she was. Oh right, perhaps she was the Medicine Cat Apprentice, that was possible wasn't it, and it would explain why he hadn't seen her in the battles.

Swallowing heavily, Splashpaw glanced up at the larger HighClan apprentice with wide, scared eyes. "S...sorry..." she managed to stutter quietly, quickly shuffling backwards before awkwardly falling into a sitting position. The tom's eyes were narrowed, flaring with a harsh, sharp sort of look, and she felt her paws shaking even moreso than when she had first entered. Was he a warrior?

"Yeah well" Shiningpaw faulted, glancing away awkwardly, it was hard to keep up the hostile front when their was nothing to fuel it.
"You're a Medicine Cat Apprentice right, you should watch yourself, you're needed to take care of the others," it sounded harsher than he meant it to, mostly due to his confusion at how to respond. Nightclan cats weren't supposed to be nice, they were supposed to be vicious carrion eating pieces of fox-dung, at least all the Nightclan Cats he'd met so far were like that.

Splashpaw glanced up for a split second in surprise at the tom's comment before hurriedly glancing away. "Y...yeah, I am." She murmured, uncomfortably shifting her position, focusing completely on her paws. She nodded slightly, her curled ears almost completely flattened against her head at his tone. She swallowed, trying to rid the lump that had formed in her throat, but to no avail. She knew there was a truce, but...this was still more terrifying than she could have imagined.

Pleased that he'd guessed right, Shiningpaw sat down, glancing over his shoulder, he didn't want anyone from Highclan, particularly Snaketail, see him talking to a Nightclan Cat.
He knew Snaketail wouldn't think it was loyal behavior during wartime and he didn't want to lose Snaketail's trust.
Nobody seemed to be around, but he shifted a little so that he was more out of sight.
"So any bad casualties on your side?" He asked awkwardly.

Splashpaw hesitated at the HighClan tom's question, not quite sure whether or not to answer...or how to answer. The entire battle for her had seemed to pass in a terrified blur, rushing the kits to safety and assuring the queens that their sons and daughters would be safe, even though she was more scared than any of the kittens had seemed. War, she had decided, was one of if not the worst things that could possibly happen to the Clans.

"Th...there was an apprentice..."

She choked, avoiding the other tom's gaze. She wasn't quite sure what had happened, but she knew that sometime during the battle it had ended in disaster.

"Oh right..." Shiningpaw immediately regretted what he'd said, of course, that Apprentice he'd... well that Apprentice. He didn't really want to tell the younger Apprentice what he'd done, already able to imagine the way she'd look at him. Anger and hatred he could deal with, but not what he was sure would come from her.
"I'm Shiningpaw" he introduced, finding that the best way to change the subject, "what's your name?"

Splashpaw ducked her head at his comment, and nervously scuffed the ground with a forepaw, the stress of the thought of the war clear in every aspect of her body language. Losses...any losses, no matter what the Clan were tragedies. She didn't quite understand why death was necessary in war. What she did know is that it was a terrible thing that she hoped would cease soon.

Shiningpaw.

She perked her curled ears as the other apprentice spoke once more, and she shyly glanced up at him as he asked her name. In that moment she felt a hint of panic rush through her as she met his gaze then she took a deep breath. "I...I'm Splashpaw." She mewed quietly, meeting his gaze for a short moment. "N...nice to meet you, Shiningpaw."

"Right, nice to meet you" Shiningpaw smiled a little, still warily looking over his shoulder in case anyone had noticed them. He didn't really want to talk about the battle now, it was over for now, but only for a night.
"Hey let's find somewhere quieter to talk" he suggested, nodding towards the edge of the Gathering place, he could relax a little there at least.

He was curious actually. He'd never really spoken to Hollowpaw and was curious as to what it was like being a Medicine Cat Apprentice. They always seemed so serious, but Splashpaw seemed more nervous than anything else.
"So what's it like being a Medicine Cat?" He asked, chuckling a little, "you must hear that all the time? Sorry to be predictable, it's not like the usual awesome me."

Splashpaw gave the slightest hint of a smile as Shiningpaw replied, then tilted her head as he spoke once more. She hesitated slightly at his suggestion, nervous - he was a HighClan cat, wasn't he? But...he...he didn't seem so bad, r...right? After a moment of silence, the young apprentice nodded in agreement, and followed him to the edge of the Gatheringplace. She actually felt safer on the edge of the gathering of cats, secure under the trees and branches.  It was much more peaceful, away from the hustle and bustle of the mingling cats. It made her feel...more safe.

She perked her ears as Shiningpaw spoke up once more, and she looked at her paws for a moment, considering, before blinking up at him as he added his last comment, and she couldn't help but smile at his cocky sort of comment. "I...I love it." She murmured, scuffing the ground with a forepaw as she thought about what to say. "I...I just became an apprentice," she admitted, "but so far...it feels really right. Helping other cats, I mean. And StarClan." She mewed, then shyly ducked her head as she realized how much she had spoken.

Shiningpaw smiled, "I suppose each to their own, I certainly wouldn't have made a very good Medicine Cat. I'm going to be a Warrior soon though, at least I hope I am if Talonstar makes me one next month, if not I'll probably have to wait another month."
It was odd talking to a Nightclan cat, and he was still trying to get used to that smell, what was it?

"I hope you don't find me rude, but what is that smell you all smell of?" He asked, "it's such a bizarre smell to us Highclan cats, I thought it was quite a terrible smell at first but its amazing how quickly you get used to it."

"Really?" she mewed, eyes wide with a mixture of fear and awe. True, at first glance she had thought the larger tom must have been a warrior already, but actually finding out he was almost a warrior was even more nervewracking. Yet...It was odd, Splashpaw realized. She found herself, as Shiningpaw spoke, growing gradually less scared around the HighClan tom. Was that okay? He...HighClan...they were supposed to be bad, right?
